Jake Cruzen,
Keep It Love

Madame X, 94 W. Houston St.
May 4th 9:00pm

Cloud Burst Advisory is proud to announce Jake Cruzen's solo debut in New York titled "Keep It Love.". Installed at the W. Houston St. lounge Madame X, whose name you may recognize from the John Singer Sargent portrait of the same name.

"Keep It Love." arrives at a watershed moment in Jake's practice. The show is comprised of two entities within Cruzen's practice: portraiture and decoration. He presents two women, in a gurative method that has always been central to his work. Splashes of color and texture adorn the bodies transporting them beyond reality into a deeper state of truth than pure realism, implicating the viewer's division of attention between depiction and emotion. The other mode of paintings on view are a series of four ornate patterns taken from tooled leather detailing. These non gurative works appear overripe, soaked with avor, sometimes swirling sometimes pooling or draining ebbys of color oated delicately on lush at planes. "Keep It Love." as a whole emotes a sumptuous quality that is at once too raw to be graceful and too pungent to be fetishistic.
